A 2D horror roguelike where you wander through a haunted forest with nothing but a flashlight. The light only reaches where you look, and the spiders come out of the dark. Pixel art meets PS1-style 3D renders, with an original soundtrack made in FL Studio.
Horouge was made in 24 hours at HackYeah 2025 in Kraków. Godot was new to me, and my first commits are literally tutorial steps. I worked on the gameplay code: hitboxes and hurtboxes, player and enemy animations, the heart bar and the game over screen. The plan was much bigger than one day: procedurally generated floors in the spirit of The Binding of Isaac, a boss on every floor, and an enemy you can only beat by switching your flashlight off. None of that fit in 24 hours, but the core loop of walking, lighting, fighting and dying works.
Directional Flashlight
Lights up only where the player is facing
4-Direction Combat
Attacks with their own animations and hitboxes
Spider Enemy AI
Chases the player with hit and hurt logic
Health & Game Over
Five hearts, then the run is over
